Start by creating two complete portraits step by step, even if you’re a beginner.

You’ll use the grid method as a starting tool to simplify proportions and train your eye to observe accurately.

Then, later in the course, you’ll also learn how to draw portraits without the grid, so you can progressively become fully independent.

This approach gives you fast, motivating results while building strong fundamentals from the very beginning.

After completing your first portraits, you’ll go deeper by studying each facial feature in detail — this time without using the grid.

You’ll learn how to draw:

• Eyes (front, profile, 3/4 view, closed)

• Nose (different angles and variations)

• Mouth (neutral, smiling, open)

• Hair (short, long, straight, wavy)

• Ears (front and profile)

This step helps you understand how each element works, so you can draw them more naturally and accurately.

The method is first fully broken down and explained step by step, so you clearly understand how it works before applying it.

You’ll then practice drawing faces:

• From the front

• In profile

• In 3/4 view

So you can build portraits that are structured, accurate and realistic.

And finally, you'll work with an additionnal exercice to perfectly master this Loomis method

Take your skills further with more complex and realistic subjects.

You’ll learn how to handle:

• Detailed features like an elderly eye

• A portrait of a Black man

• Dense, textured and complex hair
